Yes, there was wind, so the balloons were able to fly, however it was so breezy that only 30 of 70 balloons were able to launch.
Yes, I took lots of balloon pictures. Yes, I walked around for almost an hour to find a suitable vantage point.
Yes, that was The 5th Dimension's "Up, Up, and Away" playing over the loudspeakers as I was leaving the park.

We used to go to these when we lived in Macomb, IL. They are so much fun! Did they have a "balloon glow" night? That was always my favorite part.

Yes, the "ballon glow" happens on Friday night. I had a schedule conflict so I didn't go this year, but I'd gone the previous 3 years, so I didn't feel like I missed that much.
that sounds awesome. i particularly enjoy the glow on the night before the event. i wish you would let me know in advance next year. steve and i are balloon fans and we would love to come up for it next year! they tried one at cape a couple times but there were wind issues one year and rain the next and i think it went by the wayside after that. are you gong to post any pix? it seems to me that the directors of the event know their ballooning songs heehee. i am willing to bet that that song is a requirement for all such events!
It's always the third weekend in September - next year it will be September 14-15.
