My mother is an extraordinary woman. She's spent most of the past 3 months helping to care for my ailing Papaw, logging many hospital trips and highway miles between St. Louis and Malden. Just last week she had to put him back in the hospital for a couple of days then get him back home in time for Christmas, not returning until Saturday evening. Still she wanted to host the annual Christmas Day dinner for my Dad's family, albeit with dinner help from the attendees.
And the day went very well. We had sixteen for dinner and the food was great. My dad smoked two turkeys and a ham, which were sumptuous. I contributed 4 sodas and a chocolate-cherry cake from McArthur's Bakery. Everyone had a good time talking and playing with the two small children who came and added spice to the festivities! We even got a group together for a game of Catch Phrase. This provided much hilarity.
It was everything a Christmas Day should be.
