It's Been A Long Season...

For the Cardinals. A pitcher was killed, several other players suffered season-ending injuries, a player is in drug rehab at the moment, their young pitcher-turned-outfielder phenom is now linked to a steroids investigation, I could go on...

They have managed to stay in the race for the NL Central division title, despite all that AND a pitching rotation that is in flux. As Dan O'Neill put it in today's Eye Drops column:

"— The Milwaukee Braves had "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain." The Cardinals have "Wainwright and Looper, then get out the scooper."
